Chico Pride

It really doesn't feel like school has started. I don't think that's a good sign. Especially because I'm really looking forward to our first Liberal Studies party of the semester in three weeks.

I finally got two of the packets to read today. One of the things that's due tomorrow is 88 pages of John Rawls. I've read 20 of them. It's political theory. This is going to be a long semester. I've also got a lot of stuff on my mind. I should get a job, even though I freelance. Or maybe I'll just study eight hours a day. Also, I've got to apply for financial aid. I'm still waiting for a 1099 and until I get that, I can't file my taxes. And until I do that, I can't apply for financial aid.

I've also got to fill out some scholarship applications. AND there's a conference coming up to which I want to submit a paper. A friend of mine told me about one before the break but the topic (The Racialized Body) was too vague. And I don't think I'm schooled enough yet. However, last week I came across one called "Reflections on Mixed Race Identity."

It's in June in Pittsburgh and they're looking for "papers that use personal experiences to reflect critically on the ways in which current conceptions of racial identity fail to account for the complexities of multi-racial identity." They're also interested in "theories of race that currently circulate in the academy -- both in terms of the challenges lived experience can present to theory, and the ways that theory can shape those experiences as they unfold." I'd be stupid not to try. Stupid, I tell ya.Real quick before I get my ass to bed: When I was attending Chico State (one of the finest educational institutions in the United States), there was this woman in the drama department I had seen numerous times on stage. I saw her brother on stage, too. Then I started seeing her in movies. Go to IMDB.com to see which ones. Anyway, tonight at 9:30 on NBC is a show called A.U.S.A. Amanda Detmer is on the show. And she looks good. Her bio, if you care, is on NBC's Web site. It mentions Chico State. So watch the show!  I've got a gender story but it'll have to wait for another time. I'm tired. Adios (I had my first Spanish class tonight.)
