Class Reality

Six years ago, I graduated from Chico State and proudly proclaimed that I would never again step foot on another college campus. That idea soon vanished, however, as the monthly payment to the Department of Education became too much for me to handle each month. Taking six units in order to defer my loans, I discovered a new way of thinking, but one that was not quite refined and a little too raw to uphold most academic standards. Bored with the monotony of 8-5 or 8:30-5:30 or 7-3:30, I decided to jump in to a realm that I still consider to be too big for words. Yesterday, I started my graduate school career with two doozies: Modernity (what?!) and Its Discontents and The Rise and Fall of New World Slavery. Reason, purpose, Kant, Marx, and Rousseau were my words of the day. And that was in the first hour. By Tuesday, I've got to read Rousseau's "Discourse on the Origin of Inequality," as well as Kant's "What is Enlightenment" and "Idea for a Universal History from a Cosmopolitan Point of View." Once I gnaw on those, I've got to write my thoughts. That shouldn't a problem.

My slavery teacher is apparently an expert on the subject and I'm excited to learn from him. Hopefully he adopts another method of teaching besides straight lecture. The guy's gonna put me to sleep. Not really but I sure was tired yesterday. Apparently yesterday was the beginning of many things so I started yoga, too. It was ok. And today it was pilates.

I'm not doing it for really any other reason than it sounds good. I'm just kidding. I hear they're both good for you. There seems to be this constant stream of actors in my apartment. It's gonna become too much I'm afraid. They start actual classes next week so I'm hoping for a lot of homework for them. Speaking of actors, one of them told me that they're trying to get Nicole Kidman to come to the Actor's Studio. That's one show I'll have to make. Well, I'm off to read.
