Frogs And Brisbane
We took a drive up to Brisbane the other day to begin the tiresome apartment search. It's hard to land in a new place -- a new country -- and have to pick right back up and do more packing. I'm very tired of it. But we're moving from a place called Lismore. And if you like the country and its wildlife, Lismore is a great place.
If fate had kept us here, it would have been just fine. I'd have adapted just like I do with everything. Chico, Sacramento, New York. You know, the normal places. I might even have grown accustomed to all the crawling and flying things that I have encountered every day.
The other night Meredith was held hostage on the landing out front due to her own encounter. I was hanging out in the living room, or lounge room as it's called here, and I heard a frog. I'd heard many frogs every night, but this one was a bit closer. So I walked over to the screen door (I'm sure there's another word for it here) and peered out without opening it. (It was night time. I'm not stupid.) I saw nothing, so I went back to what I was doing.
Shortly after that, Meredith drove up. The next thing I know there is the sound of a key on the window. She was in distress. Running to the door, I opened it to find her standing halfway up the stairs with a concerned look on her face. She pointed to the step and the reason she refused to go any farther.

Cute little thing. But menacing, I think.
She finally made it up the stairs, despite Kermie. Her Australian wiles prompted her to hand me her bag, so she could climb her way up the railing. I'm sure I'd have done the same thing if it were an arachnid. Safely inside, Meredith put her things down, relaxed a bit after a long shift at the hospital and finally began to close up the apartment. We had a visitor.

Definitely cute. Although there were two legs coming out of his mouth. I'm not sure what he was chewing on.
We've got seven places to see tomorrow. We come back Tuesday and hopefully we'll be in possession of a lease. One of the best things about the weekend will be the fact that I get to have a BLT. The bacon is different here. It's magical.
