It's All About the BBC Now

Every day I log on to CNN.com to get a quick glance at the days' news. You may remember their gay week a little bit ago when they ran numerous (ok, three) stories on gays. I think they've outdone themselves today and have made me turn my news-hungry sights elsewhere.

CNN.com has a section it calls "Offbeat." This is where bored editors scrounge the Web for humorous news about stupid things. I should know about this because I used to edit a similar column at my last job. Anyway, their latest "offbeat" offering is the story of the Washington lesbians (not to be confused with the wealthier Winchester lesbians of Montana -- sorry) whose baby was born just one minute after the stroke of midnight on January 1. Rare? Yes. Unusual? Yes. Offbeat? Hardly. The only thing offbeat about this story is the fact that the women have been together for 12 years. And they got together in their early 20s! That's commitment.

Grade News. I got two of my three grades back tonight. Modernity -- A-; Race -- A. That's a 3.85 for those math whizzes interested in the bottom line. I've never had such a high GPA. There's a first time for everything, I suppose. I definitely let out a big sigh of relief. Especially because for some insane reason, I decided to revisit the paper I wrote for my race class.

Of course, I understood that I couldn't fix anything; of course I understood that she's probably already read it; and of course there was no way at this point to console myself if I were to happen upon a glaring error of some sort. However, on I read. Upon reaching the end of the introduciton, I closed the document and vowed never to do that again. It just doesn't feel good. I can't wait to see what Blackburn the slavery guy chooses to give me. I'm certain he won't read our papers. He'll at most skim them. Hopefully he remembers seeing my face every Tuesday. And my argument against reparations during our last session. These should count for something.
