New City, New People

Well hello. With bells on our toes and whistles on our lips, we trucked across country as happy as can be. And we arrived. I'll go into the trip itself later. Right now, I would like to discuss Tarrytown, NY.

I love this place. Everyone should come here. It's nestled right up against the Hudson River and you need to cross the Tappan Zee Bridge to get to it. It sits just before White Plains so Erin gets to escape the wilderness that is her SUNY Purchase campus and go sip tea at the Silver Taps tea room; down a slice at Tony's Pizzeria; and tarry with the locals in Sleepy Hollow, which is the village right next to Tarrytown. It's all really too much. What a difference from the place I'm in right now. It's gettin to be 1:00 a.m. here. Which isn't good b/c I was up till 4:30 yesterday morning and am working on only three hours sleep. But here are some quick points, which I'll go into later:

I was assigned to a double loft but when I got here, I was given a triple room (Yes, that's three women to a room. GRRRRR.) But, alas, only four women were assigned to this apartment. So I occupy the room and there is the double loft which is just two beds in a shared space. A small shared space. Confused? You should be. None of that made sense.

There are only two of us here now. We've pretty much made ourselves comfortable in the environment. My television is ready to go in the kitchen/dining room space. I've taken the bed off the frickin stilts it was sitting on. (Give me a break. I don't need to be climbing things to go to sleep. Brushing my teeth and washing my face is hard enough before bedtime, let alone exercising.)

The one roommate who is here with me now is really cool so far. She's 22. Her name is "Gray." Like the color. She's a first-year grad student in The Actor's Studio. I absolutely, for the life of me, will never be able to get away from actors. That's ok. They're fun. She's got a good head on her shoulders and I hope to accompany her and her classmates to tapings of "Inside the Actor's Studio," which airs on Bravo. Check your local listings. (Oh, and something else I won't be able to get away from.....her boyfriend's name is "Shane" ... just kidding, my friend.)

I moved in under rainy skies. It was a wonderful omen. And I got a parking ticket. Whatever. I think I can have my hearing online at nyc.gov. I think I might try that. Gosh, government and technology at work!

I can't think anymore. I'm going to sleep. My orientation is tomorrow. And a lunch. And another special thing. And a cocktail thingy. I'm finally here.
