Protests in Australia Actually Work And Seat Sniffing Hits The States
I was watching some news yesterday and saw a report of a bunch of shirtless cab drivers in Melbourne protesting after the stabbing of a fellow driver who is now stable. News reports said 500 people had joined the 22-hour-long protest that blocked the city's biggest intersection. So I'm watching this thing and thinking to myself that that really sucks. These guys are out there, clearly pissed off, and no one's listening. Well, guess what? By the time I went to bed, some of the demands had been met and the people were talking and progress was happening. What the hell? I've never seen anything like it.
I also heard yesterday about a seat sniffer. Thank goodness he's in the Liberal (conservative) party. I've got really nothing more to say on that, except that I just saw that Huffington Post decided to run the story. Of all the things to pick up from Australia, the seat sniffer's gonna get play. Wonderful. But I had to click to read the three pages (and hopefully growing) worth of comments from the probably mostly American reading public.
And finally, the Dallas Mavericks dropped Avery Johnson as its head coach. Of course he was fired. I'm thinking it's time Gregg Popovich get him back on the Spurs' bench right now in time for the second round against New Orleans. What's that? The Spurs beat the odds of ESPN's writers and beat the Phoenix Suns in five games. Just another thing to piss John McCain off this week. Go Spurs! I'm already starting to get nervous. Unfortunately, I have to watch the game on ESPN's gamecast. I have yet to find the NBA in Brisbane. Dammit.
