Slow Livin’

I didn't know how hard it would be to not have a schedule. Not that grad school necessarily gives me one, but to have no reason to get up makes it really easy to stay in bed.

It'll all end next Monday when I get going on two jobs, so I might have to start forcing myself out of bed at a reasonable hour. I'm going to have to leave the house by 9 every morning. Fuck.

I met Erica today at the Tea Lounge for our first official mag meeting. We seem to be well on our way. We've got real ideas and I think this may turn into something. Time will tell. We discussed an important topic: the focus of the magazine. And we're in total agreement. More on that when we get it down on paper.

We also started brainstorming on titles and had some fun with that. Our next meeting will result in a mission statement, writer's guidelines, and a title. I then spent the next four and a half hours in the same place working on my article. Whatever. It's hard to get back into "journalism" after writing academically.

I'm sure I'll manage the rest of the week to beautify the 1,200-word assignment. It's definitely worth the $500, which I actually wouldn't mind having now.

I'm going to try to get $10 tickets to an Alvin Ailey performance at the City Center. I also noticed that they're mounting The Mikado at the end of next month. Also, I have to get tickets to Kiss Me, Kate, so I can see Daniel. Money definitely helps. But eating is an important thing. I was waiting for the train this afternoon and I looked over to my right and saw an old woman walking up the steps. She had a bag in each hand and at each step, put one of the bags down, grabbed the handrail, and went up one step. So I went over and asked if she wanted help. She said, "oh that would be great." As I carried the bag up, I said, "these steps suck." She made her way up the stairs and said, "Thank you, son. You've done your good deed for the day."

Oh, and let me see, a 6.5 earthquake in California kills two people. A 6.6 in Iran kills 28,000. But hey, as long as we're fighting the good fight against terrorism.
