Thought I Might Be in Some Danger

I was taking a break this evening from enjoying Conan O'Brian's, Bryan's, Brien's 10-year anniversary show (I read enough today) to go to the mailbox, which is just at the corner by the subway. As I was headed down the street, I noticed a short man walking across the street headed toward the same corner I was.

He then pulled up and stood behind the lamp post, and tried to make it look like he was doing something, like posting a flyer or something. But he wasn't looking at the lamp post; he was looking beyond it, as if he was looking for something. Well, I didn't want to stop and turn back to my place so I kept going.

I looked right in the guy's face, because, by now, he had left the lamp post and was walking in the direction from which I was coming. He passed me to my right after looking me in the eye (looking up to me, because he was shorter than I) and then went and stood at the top of the subway stairs. I dropped my deal in the mailbox, heart beating just a little faster than normal, and turned to see what he was doing.I did this just in time to catch him looking down the steps and motioning someone to wait to come up the stairs. That was it. I left the mailbox and headed back to my house, passing him as he stood at the top of the stairs. I was pretty freaked out to say the least. There was also a car double parked a little bit away from the corner. Freaky freaky. And this neighborhood is so peaceful...or so I thought. The rest of my day was spent with books in my face accompanied by the peace and quiet of my empty apartment. So I got a good amount of reading done. I have to be 10 minutes late to my favorite class tomorrow night because I have therapy. It was either the hour before class or I'd have to wait till next week. Some things just can't wait. I e-mailed the profs and told them and Elizabeth already responded. I also start my job tomorrow. Bulletin editor. Perhaps I should peruse some of the Bulletins before I go in.   Back to my leisurely Sunday evening.

I called my landlord to alert him of the potential danger and to see what his thoughts on it were. He said he'd check it out.

About 25 minutes later, I heard a voice over a megaphone and went to my bedroom window to see what was up. I couldn't see the car, as it had already passed but I did see the sirens. I also heard what sounded like a noise that would come from a street-cleaning vehicle. So it appears as though Jason called the cops. A few minutes later, I heard the voice again, this time saying something in Spanish, and, again, I went to the window. I saw the sirens first, heard the voice, and then watched an NYPD van drive by followed closely by a big pick-up that was spraying something behind it. Weird. That's what I call neighborhood watch.
