Tourist Day
After muddling through my morning taking care of various forms of business, such as dealing with the phone company and finally submitting my promissory note for one of my loans for this year, Pavlina, Victoria and I left the house. I told them I wanted to show them my New York, which includes a stop by my school and different points in the W. Village. I wore them out.
They spent most of the day walking anywhere from three to five feet behind me. I warned them about impatient New Yorkers who would no doubt run up the backs of their heels. I'm sure by the end of the week, they will adapt. I finally got my haircut. There were no dirty looks this time. This gave them a chance to look around lower Manhattan a bit. Then we went up to my school, hit a cafe, and finally -- finally -- managed to settle on a place to eat. In between, there were numerous stops at tourist shops. I told them to think about waiting till they were in Times Square.
The NYC merchandise is undoubtedly cheaper uptown. We then went to sit at the Hudson River, which is one of my favorite things to do. We sat there for a little bit and then it was time to go. We ended the day at Madison Square Garden. Remember the Liberty game I had tickets to on Blackout Thursday? There was some confusion as to when the postponed game was to be played, but it ended up being tonight. Well, I didn't want to go without the person I was supposed to go with. So I sold them the tickets at half price. What a friend I am. When we got off the train, we walked down into Penn Station. We didn't have to but I wanted them to see the rush hour madness. And there was the New Jersey Transit. Of course I had to look at the board to find out when the train that runs on the Trenton line was leaving. I'm a glutton. I just had to look. And then we walked by all the tracks -- again, a glutton. Then we went into the arena. I didn't think it would suck. Micah has never seen a WNBA game and I really wanted to make that happen for her. It almost did. But almost isn't good enough. There was disappointment all around. Nevertheless, I had to wait in line to retrieve the tickets, only to immediately hand them over. It really sucked. There's always next summer... I wasn't ready to go home at this point. Cornelia would be working on her paper and, well, my room wasn't too inviting at that particular moment. So I went to Renata's and Marcela's place. And that's where I am now, tapped into someone's wireless network, typing away while sitting on Renata's IKEA bed while her boyfriend watches soccer. There are many other things all up in this thick skull of mine, as well as that organ protected by my sternum. But I'm not going to go there just now. Brenda has just arrived, fresh off her summer stay in Mexico. I must go catch up with her.
